Home Remedies using Grapes

Source: Uvas e Vinho
Grapes have been cultivated for thousands of years. The fruit are round or oval in shape and come in the following colors:
  • yellow- green
  • green
  • red
  • purple
  • black
The use of grapes in wine making can be traced to the ancient Greeks and Romans.

Red, purple and black grapes are used in making red wine. The wine gets the red color from the skin of the grapes.

White wine is made from yellow-green or green colored grapes. But it’s not the skin of these grapes that give white wine its color. The skin and seeds are discarded and only the white flesh is used to make the wine.

Sometimes red, purple and black grapes are also used in making white wine but only the flesh of the grapes are used and not the skin.

Although green grapes do not taste as sweet as the dark colored ones, the fruits are rich in Vitamin C and K.

Green grapes contain the antioxidant catechin. Catechins are used in treating heart disease and cancer.

When choosing green grapes pick the yellow-green colored ones since it tastes sweeter than the green ones.

Red Grapes promote healthy blood vessels and is a recommended fruit for heart patients.

Purples grapes are a favorite among women over 30 who are concerned about wrinkles and aging. The antioxidants in these grapes have anti-aging properties. Some women include a cup of purple grapes in their diet 3 to 4 times a week to maintain their youth.

Black grapes are rich in potassium, magnesium and calcium. Some people consume a cup of black grapes 3 times a week to help them lose weight. The skins in black grapes are said to contain anthocyanins which helps in the breakdown of fatty acids and promotes weight loss.

*1 cup of grapes equals about 32 grapes.
