The Dragon Fruit is a fiber rich fruit which has fragrant flowers that bloom at night. The Dragon Fruit plant also known as the Pitaya fruit cactus is a kind of cactus which bears red-skinned fruit with white flesh (Red Pitaya), red-skinned fruit with red flesh (Costa Rica Pitayas) and yellow-skinned fruit with white flesh (Yellow Pitaya). Many claim the red skinned dragon fruit is the tastiest out of the three. The red dragon fruit’s also said to have the ability to control glucose levels in blood which is good news for diabetic patients. The fruit was first discovered growing in

Dragon Fruit plants play a major role in the environment for it has the ability to take in carbon dioxide when its flowers bloom at night and give out oxygen to clean the air.
The fiber in dragon fruit helps to improve the digestive system bringing relief to constipation and help in weight loss.
Dragon fruit is high in Vitamin C which helps to strengthen the immune system and lower the risk of respiratory problems such as the common cold and cough and helps in the healing of wounds.
The phytoalbumins contained in dragon fruit are antioxidants and helps to lower cholesterol and blood pressure.
The famous health specialist Dr. Oz says the Lycopene in dragon fruit is ‘known for helping to reduce damage to the skin when exposed to the sun.’
How to Make Dragon Fruit Smoothie
To make this recipe make sure all the ingredients except for the sugar has been chilled.
- Flesh from 1 red skinned dragon fruit
- ¼ cup blackberries
- ¼ cup raspberries
- ¼ cup yogurt
- 1 teaspoon sugar
Place all the ingredients in the blender and blend till smooth. Serve immediately.
